Merrill Lynch Open Announces Hillar C. Moore, Jr. Memorial Pro-Am

Tournament honors founding member

(Baton Rouge, La.) Hillar C. Moore, Jr. became very involved in the fight against cancer in 1990, joining other community leaders as a founding member of the Mary Bird Perkins Charity Golf Classic – now known as the Merrill Lynch Open, presented by the Law Offices of Steven J. Moore.
“Hillar Moore was not only a founding member of this event, but he remained actively involved with it for the past 22 years,” said Mike Patterson, chairman, 2013 golf organizing committee. “To honor his role in creating and helping sustain this vitally important fundraiser for the Center, the pro-am component of the Merrill Lynch Open has been named the Hillar C. Moore, Jr. Memorial Pro-Am.”
The golf tournament has raised almost $2 million since its inception, with funds going back to the Baton Rouge community to support life-saving early detection, prevention education, treatment, clinical research and social services for patients and caregivers.
A devoted husband to his beloved wife Bernadine, whom he lost to cancer in 1991, and father of seven – including a daughter who succumbed to cancer in 1993 – Moore’s ceaseless dedication to the success of the golf tournament helped save countless lives and allowed for the creation of many programs and services for patients.

“Our family is continuing dad’s legacy by coming together to support this annual golf tournament that meant so much to him,” said Hillar Moore, Jr.’s son, Hillar III. “We encourage you to consider partnering with us by becoming a sponsor of the Hillar C. Moore, Jr.  Memorial Pro-Am on April 30. Please contact any of the Moore family members or Randy Haddad at the Cancer Center (225) 215-1208 to learn more about the benefits of a sponsorship.”
