(Baton Rouge, La.) Mary Bird Perkins – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center has opened the phase one areas of its $23 million renovation and expansion project that began last summer.

The following are the completed phase one projects:

  • A 14,000-square-foot infusion(chemotherapy) suite with an onsite state-of-the-art clinical oncology pharmacy for expedited drug preparation and delivery. The suite also includes 52 semi-private and four private infusion bays with televisions, headsets and Wi-Fi for mobile devices for enhanced patient comfort.
  • The 8,149-square-foot Thomas J. Moran Imaging Center, offering the latest in diagnostic technologies, including CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, PET/CT and MRI.  The diagnostic imaging center, which plays a critical role in treatment planning and palliative therapies, is named after Moran, a grateful and generous patient who benefited from imaging during his treatment.
  • Installation of the new Elekta Versa HD radiation technology, offering greater speed and superior focus on tumor size, shape and volume, which makes treatment more efficient and effective.

“This phase one completion is a great example of the depth and breadth of cancer services and amenities that will be available to patients when our renovation is complete,” said Linda Lee, Cancer Center administrator.

“This project has been years in the making, and there has been an enormous amount of planning and care invested in creating a Cancer Center that is second to none in the region. Every element was designed to provide a comfortable and efficient patient experience.”

The Cancer Center began its renovation and expansion project in June 2013 and is scheduled to be completed in its entirety in early 2015. Remaining major projects include main entrance and front lobby area, donor recognition wall, radiation oncology area, family and visitor hospitality area, and meditation room.
