MONROE, La. – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is hosting a pair of FREE cancer screening events in communities across the Delta Region. Early detection is key when it comes to cancer diagnosis and

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center invites residents to participate in the following events:
– August 18, 2022| 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Walmart Supercenter, 6091 Mer Rouge Road in Bastrop
– August 19, 2022 | 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Doug’s IGA Street, 400 East Darrow in Tallulah
These events are being offered through Mary Bird Perkins’ innovative Prevention on the Go program, a program designed to provide education and early detection services in locations where people live,
work, worship, shop and play. Through the use of the Cancer Center’s mobile medical clinics, the Mary Bird Perkins team travels throughout Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi to serve thousands of participants each year. In the Delta Region, these events are supported by local partners in an effort to provide Northeast Louisiana residents with greater access to cancer screenings.
“We are overcome with gratitude for the support we’ve received in Northeast Louisiana,” said Myra Gatling-Akers, regional manager, early detection and education, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “Through Prevention on the Go, we have been able to provide cancer screenings to residents who have never before been screened for cancer. With continued support from our community, we’ll have even more opportunities to screen residents within our most rural and underserved communities.”
Appointments are required for all screenings. If an abnormality is found, a nurse navigator will assist screening participants with next steps. To make an appointment, please call (318) 414-9758.
