12th Annual Pirate Party To Be Held in Covington on January 18

COVINGTON, La. – Event tickets are now available for the 12th Annual Pirate Party set for January 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Columbia Street Tap Room in Covington. This event is hosted by Jack E. Saux, III, M.D., medical oncologist, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, who is affectionately known as “The Pirate Oncologist.” Every year, this event raises awareness of local nonprofit organizations that support those impacted by cancer while celebrating great costuming, great fun and great causes.
Funds raised at this year’s event will be used to support Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Covington and patients on the Northshore.

Event attendees can enjoy delicious food provided by local restaurants, including Tap Room, Seiler Bar, Paco’s Tacos, Southern Hotel, Copeland’s and Meribo. There will be an open bar and wine from Artisan Fine Wines. Live music will be provided by local cover band, Lost in the Sixties. Attendees can also participate in a live and silent auction featuring local art, unique experiences and an extensive array of goods and services provided by local businesses.

A variety of sponsorship packages are available for this event. Find sponsorship and ticket information here.

“Aside from a roaring good time, this event gives us a great opportunity to support the life-saving work conducted at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center,” said Saux. “Thanks to the generosity of this community, we’ve raised thousands of dollars to support patients right here on the Northshore. As much as we’ve accomplished, we know that there is so much more work to do. So, come out and join us on January 18!”

This event, which began as a birthday celebration for Saux has evolved into a successful fundraiser benefiting cancer patients, survivors, and their families. In the last decade, the annual Pirate Party raised more than $150,000 for local medical and mental health centers and non-profit organizations. These funds supported patient assistance programs and helped remove barriers to care for patients across Covington and the Northshore region.

This year’s celebration is more meaningful as Saux has been navigating his own cancer journey. In June of 2023, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Despite this battle, Saux has continued to treat patients.

“Throughout my own battle with cancer, I have been overwhelmed with how much support I have received,” said Saux. “This community means so much to me and my family. Time and again, members of this community come out and support their neighbors. Here, on the Northshore, no one fighting cancer is forced to battle alone.”
