Free Cancer Screening Event, Live Well Northshore, Returns to Covington

COVINGTON, La. – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s popular Live Well community health event is set to return to Covington this month. Live Well Northshore, a FREE cancer screening opportunity, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Covington Trailhead (419 N. New Hampshire Street, Covington). This free community event provides residents with an opportunity to take advantage of four different types of cancer screenings, including breast, prostate, colorectal and skin cancer. Participants can also access blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose checks.

Beyond these important cancer screenings and health services, there will be food, music and fun activities for the entire family.

“We have had great participation every year we have hosted Live Well Northshore, which means residents are taking advantage of early detection and prevention services,” said Renea Duffin, vice president, cancer support and outreach, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “We are so thankful for our community partners who understand the importance of cancer screenings and making them accessible in a convenient way.”

The success of Live Well Northshore is made possible annually thanks to the generosity of the Benjamin Blanchard Memorial Foundation, which is a committed and steadfast partner to Mary Bird Perkins, where Blanchard received a portion of his cancer treatment.

“Without the dedication and support of leaders in the community like the Ben Blanchard Memorial Foundation, Live Well Northshore would not be possible,” said Erica Kelt, director of development, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Covington. “The Foundation’s commitment to philanthropy, and its support for community programs, continues to make a huge impact in expanding access to life-saving resources across our community.”

“Once again, we are proud to support Mary Bird Perkins and Live Well Northshore,” said Chris Blanchard, president of the Foundation board. “Early detection, annual screenings and other preventative measures are crucial to improving survivorship and lessening the burden of cancer. With Ben’s generous spirit in mind, we are determined to make sure residents across our community have the opportunity to take advantage of the Cancer Center’s services.”

Appointments are encouraged for all screenings. If an abnormality is found, a nurse navigator will assist screening participants with next steps, also at no cost. To make a screening appointment, please call (225) 425-8034 or visit pogo.marybird.com to schedule an appointment.
