The future of cancer care begins with you.
100% of funds donated stay in Ascension Parish.
In 2009, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center established its Gonzales location, offering state-of-the-art radiation oncology services. Over the past decade, Ascension Parish has not only experienced significant growth but also faced disproportionately high rates of cancer incidence, surpassing the state average. In response to this critical need, we have made substantial investments in leading-edge technology and programs, significantly elevating our cancer program to new heights.
Thanks to the incredible support from loyal community stakeholders, Mary Bird Perkins served thousands of residents – ensuring patients have local access to high-quality treatments, advanced technology, diagnostic imaging, and essential support services, all without leaving their community.

"Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is dedicated to improving survivorship and lessening the burden of cancer in Ascension Parish. Through the ongoing generosity and support of the community, we continue to ensure patients have access to high quality, compassionate care close to home."
Jonas Fontenot, PhD, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer
Recently, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales took a significant step forward by introducing the Elekta Infinity, a state-of-the-art radiation treatment system that aggressively targets tumors without damaging healthy tissue and reduces the time required for radiotherapy. This leading-edge technology, which provides our medical staff with even more options to ensure patients receive the most precise and effective treatment plans, is the Cancer Center’s latest investment in high-quality cancer care close to home. Additionally, Mary Bird Perkins in Gonzales is the first provider in the region to offer a groundbreaking radiation treatment called PLUVICTO, specifically designed for patients with advanced prostate cancer.
Answering the community’s call, the Cancer Center began offering chemotherapy and infusion services a few years ago and quickly outgrew the space. Until recently, Ascension Parish residents in need of infusion were often referred to facilities in Baton Rouge or New Orleans. To meet growing demand, Mary Bird Perkins recently completed a transformative renovation and facility expansion.

Mary Bird Perkins has further solidified its commitment to cancer care in Ascension Parish through a fundraising initiative aimed to redefine the landscape of cancer care in Gonzales. Focused on expanding and enhancing infusion and support services, this initiative is more than a campaign; it is a transformative collaboration and a meaningful opportunity for the community to invest in shaping the future of cancer care in the region.
Envisioning a dynamic and comforting environment, the 6,000-square-foot facility expansion features a 2,500-square-foot infusion suite with 14 semi-private infusion bays and one private room, a state-of-the-art lab, a retail pharmacy, new exam rooms and more. Patients also have access to enhanced programs and resources, including a patient navigator, a dietitian, palliative care specialists and clinical trials. The expansion more than triples the Gonzales Cancer Center’s capacity, allowing it to serve over 300 patients each month.
Winning the fight against cancer requires a united community. With a goal to raise $2.5 million by December 2025, we invite the Ascension Parish community (and beyond) to join us in surrounding patients with everything they need to triumph over cancer.
Winning the fight against cancer takes a community coming together with one common goal. Your investment can have a lasting impact for those battling the disease right here at home. There are over 50 unique naming opportunities available to recognize you, your family, friend or loved one— including special recognition in our newly renovated Cancer Center. This gift can be made through a multi-year option up to five years.
On September 22, we celebrated the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of our newly expanded Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales. This is more than just an expansion, it’s a promise to continue providing world-class cancer care right where our patients live, work, and raise their families.
