More than 450 people took proactive measures to protect their health by receiving free cancer screenings Mary Bird Perkins Live Well events this year. Whether in Covington, Gonzales or Houma, residents throughout southeast Louisiana had convenient access screenings for four different types of cancers.
Due to time constraints and commitments, many people in local communities across the state lack access to healthcare, especially cancer prevention, education and early detection. Unfortunately, this can result in cancers going undetected. Events like Live Wells provide patients weekend options for early detection services in a safe and easily accessible environment.
Successfully Saving Lives
All free cancer screenings for Live Well events included breast, colorectal, prostate and skin. A total of 462 cancer screenings took place with over 30 percent of those participants never screened for cancer. Anyone who received an abnormal finding from their screening are being assisted by a Cancer Center patient navigator to ensure all of their necessary follow-up care is promptly provided.
