Scott E. Delacroix Jr., M.D., FACS

Mary Bird Provider

Dr. Scott Delacroix is a board-certified urologic oncologist at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Metairie. He specializes in the care of patients with cancers of the urinary tract and male reproductive system, including prostate, bladder, kidney, upper tract, testicular, and penile cancers. While he is an expert in advanced robotic and open surgery, Dr. Delacroix’s primary focus is on providing comprehensive care for patients with genitourinary malignancies, regardless of their stage or treatment choice. Many of his patients never require surgery, as his approach emphasizes individualized care tailored to each patient’s goals, values, and unique circumstances.

Dr. Delacroix’s patient-centered approach to Prostate Cancer Care ensures that patients are supported with an individualized treatment plan that aligns with their specific goals and priorities. Whether managing early-stage disease with active surveillance or treating advanced prostate cancer with multidisciplinary therapies, Dr. Delacroix prioritizes patient education, quality-of-life considerations, and collaborative decision-making at every step.

In addition, Dr. Delacroix leads one of the largest Bladder-Sparing Programs in the US for patients with bladder cancer. This innovative, multidisciplinary approach offers many patients the opportunity to avoid bladder removal, prioritizing quality of life without compromising treatment outcomes. While this program is labor-intensive and requires the collaboration of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, Dr. Delacroix believes it exemplifies patient-centered care and should be an option for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer.

Following his medical school and residency training in Louisiana, Dr. Delacroix completed a Society of Urologic Oncology-accredited fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He then returned to Louisiana, dedicating 15 years to advancing cancer care as Vice Chair, Professor with Tenure in the Department of Urology, and Director of Urologic Oncology at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. Dr. Delacroix is heavily involved in national committees on urologic oncology and is a leader in multiple clinical trials for patients with prostate and bladder cancer.

“Our mission is to improve survivorship and lessen the burden of cancer care through expert treatment, compassionate care, early detection, research, and education,” says Dr. Delacroix. “Education is paramount for a patient with a diagnosis of cancer, and taking the time to meet the patient where they are from an understanding perspective is very impactful. My goal is to ensure every patient understands the available options—whether surgical, medical, or radiation therapies, or a combination of modalities—and that we address quality-of-life issues head-on rather than after the fact.”

As part of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center team, Dr. Delacroix collaborates with multidisciplinary specialists, including focused genitourinary medical and radiation oncologists, genetic counselors, and men’s health/sexual function experts. His vision for care ensures patients have a comprehensive support system and access to the most advanced and personalized cancer treatments from the onset of diagnosis. AMDG.
