Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center To Provide Free Colorectal Cancer Screening Kits To The Tallulah Community

(Tallulah, La.)Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, is providing free, convenient access to breast and skin cancer screenings and colorectal cancer screening kits to the Tallulah community.

Discovering cancers in their earliest stage through screenings can help lead to better outcomes, making it extremely important for the community to get screened according to the recommended guidelines.

The screenings will take place on Thursday, August 5, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Doug’s IGA, 400 E. Darrow St., Tallulah LA 71282. In addition, food boxes will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis in partnership with the Blue Cross Foundation, to all individuals who attend the screening event or receive a screening kit.

Screening mammograms will be available for women 40 and older and have not received a mammogram in the last 12 months. In addition, free breast exams will be performed by a clinician for women 18 and older.

All colorectal screening kits are available to those who have not been screened in the past 12 months and who are 45 years or older. A visual examination will be performed by a physician for all skin cancer screenings.

Registration is required for all screening kits pick-ups and examinations. To reserve your screening kit or make a reservation, please call (318) 414-9758.

During COVID-19, the Cancer Center has taken steps to ensure the safety of both participants and staff. A number of practices are in place to ensure the safety of everyone, such as increased frequency of our cleaning and disinfecting practices for high-touch areas and appointments for all screenings to ensure social distancing.
