Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC announces 2013 Fakiér Open

  (Houma) – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC (MBPCC at TGMC) is proud to announce that Fakiér Jewelers will again serve as title sponsor for the Center’s annual signature golf tournament. The 2013 Fakiér Open will take place at Ellendale Country Club in Houma April 2 – 6 and will feature the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series. “We’re very fortunate to have Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC in our community,” said Greg Fakiér of Fakiér Jewelers. “They deliver excellent care to patients, close to home. It is our responsibility as a community to contribute to the long-term success of the Cancer Center and the fight against cancer. Fakiér Jewelers is committed to helping make that happen.” Proceeds from the Fakiér Open will benefit MBPCC at TGMC and be used to support early detection efforts as well as patient support services. Last year, nearly 2,000 people were reached through the Cancer Center’s 25 free cancer screenings and 13 educational events. “We are beyond excited to have the support of Fakiér Jewelers again,” said Amy Ponson, director of development for MBPCC at TGMC. “This golf tournament focuses on supporting our mission to improve survivorship and lessen the burden of cancer in the Bayou Region. Fakiér is a true believer in our mission and we look forward to working together to fight cancer in our community.” The Pro-Am tournament will take place Tuesday, April 2 and is in the form of a four-man shamble. Each team will be comprised of three amateur golfers and a professional golfer from the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series. Wednesday, April 3 through Saturday, April 6 is the Fakiér Open professional tournament featuring Adams Golf Pro Tour Series players. On Friday, April 5 young aspiring golfers ages 6 – 16 will get the opportunity to practice their swings with the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series professionals at a free junior clinic. The Taste of the Tournament Par-Tee and Auction will close out the week’s events on Friday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. The Taste will feature a Rolex watch raffle in addition to some of the area’s most delicious local cuisine, music and a silent auction.
