Teaming up to provide safe, life-saving screenings
For many years, Mary Bird Perkins – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center and Woman’s Hospital have partnered to provide more than 40,000 breast cancer screenings throughout the community, utilizing our mobile medical clinics, rolling throughout the region. Although screenings were temporarily paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cancer Center and Woman’s Hospital have safely resumed these life-saving services.
As a result of these screenings, over 300 women have been diagnosed with cancer since the program began in 2002. The Breast & GYN Cancer Pavilion due to its focus on women and cancer opened in 2018, expanding the services provided by the collaborative expertise provided by the Cancer Center and Woman’s Hospital. There is no other known cancer center in the country focused specifically on these diseases.
While routine cancer screenings are important in detecting potentially deadly cancers, keeping our screening participants and team safe during COVID-19 is just as important.
