BRIDGING PRECLINICAL SUCCESS TO CLINICAL PRACTICE IN FLASH RADIATION THERAPY
Abstract:
FLASH radiation therapy and the “FLASH effect” represent a significant advancement in radiation therapy, offering a higher therapeautic index by minimizing normal tissue damage while maintaining tumor control compared to conventional dose rate radiation therapy. The FLASH effect has been consistently observed in various preclinical studies involving both tumor and normal tissue models. Although the precise biological mechanisms are still under investigation, addressing key translational and technological questions is essential for moving towards clinical application. In this seminar, we will explore the preclinical data available on these topics and discuss potential strategies for implementing FLASH therapy in clinical practice.
