BATON ROUGE, La. – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center today announced that J. Ryan Shows, M.D., and Lauren Zatarain, M.D., will begin practicing at the Cancer Center, effective Jan. 4, 2023. Shows and Zatarain are experienced medical oncologists who have been caring for patients in the Greater Baton Rouge region for many years and will be joining Louisiana Hematology Oncology Associates.

Shows received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in Baton Rouge. Shows completed his Fellowship training in hematology and oncology at LSUHSC in Shreveport. He is Board Certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the American College of Physicians.
Zatarain received her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She completed her internship and residency at LSU Health Sciences Center in Baton Rouge and completed a Fellowship in hematology/oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. She served as chief resident and chief fellow in her respective training programs. Zatarain is Board Certified in hematology, oncology and internal medicine. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
Auldyn Hirschey and Christi Gaubert, nurse practitioners, and several additional team members who have worked closely with Shows and Zatarain, will join them at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
Both Shows and Zatarain were previously with Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group.
Dr. Shows will have clinics in Baton Rouge, Gonzales and the Baton Rouge General campus, while Dr. Zatarain will practice at the Cancer Center’s physician offices at Woman’s Hospital and Essen Lane.
