SLIDELL, La. – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, through its Prevention on the Go program, will host FREE breast, colorectal and skin cancer screenings on Monday, January 23 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. outside of Best Buy in Fremaux Center, located at 200 Town Center Parkway in Slidell. Residents from across St. Tammany Parish and surrounding communities are invited to take advantage of this free cancer screening opportunity.

All screenings are available to those who have not been screened for cancer in the past 12 months. Appointments are required for all screenings. To make an appointment, please call (985) 287-5775. If an abnormality is found, a nurse navigator will assist screening participants with next steps.

“We are proud to offer this free cancer screening event to the Slidell community,” said Brittny Costella, early detection regional manager, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “Last year, our Prevention on the Go program screened a record number of residents across Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi. We’re excited to carry this momentum into 2023 – starting right here in Slidell. If you haven’t been screened for cancer in the past 12 months, we encourage you to come out and see us!”

Louisiana has one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the nation, and this is due to lack of access to care, delayed diagnosis and treatment, limited educational awareness and low utilization of preventative services. Early detection is key when it comes to successfully battling and treating cancer.

This Slidell screening event is only the latest example of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s commitment to serving communities on the Northshore. Last year, Mary Bird Perkins’ Prevention on the Go program provided 1,093 screenings to residents in this region (745 screenings in St. Tammany Parish).

St. Tammany parish is also served by two Mary Bird Perkins facilities. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Covington provides state‐of‐the art radiation therapy, chemotherapy, infusion and diagnostic imaging, along with vital support services to patients and families. In December of 2022, the organization announced the opening of an additional location in St. Tammany Parish with a new medical oncology clinic at 1570 Lindberg Drive, Suite 12 in Slidell.
