NATCHEZ, Miss. – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s popular Live Well community health event is expanding into southwest Mississippi this spring. Live Well Mississippi, an early detection and cancer screening and education opportunity, will be held Sat., April 15 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Natchez Middle School (319 Sgt. Prentiss Drive). This free community event is designed to provide residents from across southwest Mississippi an opportunity to take advantage of four types of cancer screenings, including breast, colorectal, prostate, and skin cancers. Participants can also access blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose checks.
Health vendors, food, music and activities for children will also be available. Appointments are required. To schedule a screening, call (601) 202-5056.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Cancer Center’s successful Live Well series to Natchez, aimed at providing residents across southwest Mississippi with the resources to take charge of their health in a convenient and comfortable setting,” said Amber Henderson, practice manager, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Natchez. “Providing opportunities such as this, free of charge, will go a long way in helping us detect cancer earlier and improve survivorship.”
Should an abnormality be found a nurse navigator will assist screening participants with next steps, also at no cost, thanks to generous donors.
Live Well Natchez will mark the sixth region where Mary Bird Perkins has launched its signature community health event. Similar events are held annually in Baton Rouge, Covington, Gonzales, Houma, and Monroe. To acknowledge the support from the Natchez-area community, Mary Bird Perkins has named honorary co-chairs for this year’s Live Well Natchez event. Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson and Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten will serve as co-chairs, highlighting the partnership between southwest Mississippi and the Cancer Center.
