Mindy Bowie, M.D., FACS, Joins Mary Bird Perkins; Cancer Center’s Breast Services Expand to Among Region’s Most Comprehensive

Baton Rouge, La. – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center proudly announces the addition of Mindy Bowie, M.D., FACS, a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, to its team. Bowie’s arrival enhances Mary Bird Perkins’ robust multidisciplinary breast cancer program, which already includes top-tier services in medical oncology, radiation oncology, advanced imaging and comprehensive survivorship care.

Bowie is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is an active member of the American College of Surgeons and serves as the Secretary for the Louisiana Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

A Louisiana native, Bowie earned her B.S. in Microbiology and M.S. degrees from Louisiana State University. She completed her medical degree, general surgery internship, and residency at LSU Health Sciences Center, followed by a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla. She practiced in Florida for several years prior to her return to Louisiana.

With over a decade of experience in the Baton Rouge community, Bowie is known for her commitment to early breast cancer detection and innovative treatment techniques. She and her team are excited to join Mary Bird Perkins, where she will continue her work in survivorship and high-risk clinics while expanding patient access to clinical trials.

Bowie’s expertise in Hidden Scar™ breast surgery, nipple-sparing mastectomies, breast biopsies, and oncoplastic breast surgery will further elevate the level of care available to patients, ensuring that Mary Bird Perkins remains at the forefront of breast cancer treatment and research in the region.

Bowie has been connected to Mary Bird Perkins for many years, including as a member of the Echo Alliance – a collaborative group of women dedicated to supporting those affected by cancer.
