Cancer Survivors Artwork to be Displayed at Songwriter’s Festival

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center hosts art event for cancer survivors and family members.

(Baton Rouge, La.) Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s Adamek Overlook was filled with laughter and music as cancer survivors decorated instruments at the recent Music in Me Healing Arts workshop. Laura Gaddy, the Cancer Center’s survivorship program coordinator, encouraged the group to express themselves through painting guitars and drum heads. Local singer/songwriter Barry Hebert performed, helping inspire artistic creativity as the survivor group painted instruments. Also in attendance was one of the co-hosts of Talk 107.3’s Rock It Right radio show Dr. Kay Solar, who recorded the medical segment of her program during the event to explain the benefits of Healing Arts, a therapeutic program that promotes enhanced health and well-being. The decorated instruments will be displayed at the Third Street Songwriter’s Festival April 21 at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center from 1 – 6 p.m. Michael Ransow, one of the Music in Me participants, will be performing in the 2 p.m. songwriter round at the festival.
