Capital Area’s Top Restaurants Featured at Cancer Center’s Annual Fundraiser

The 80s are back to benefit local cancer patients

(Baton Rouge, La.) The awesome 80s are coming back as part of The Taste, one of Mary Bird Perkins – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center’s largest and most anticipated fundraising events of the year. At this year’s 80s-themed event, guests will enjoy delicious cuisine from the Capital City’s top restaurants and caterers, an exciting live and silent auction, and other spirited attractions while the ultimate 80s cover band, Werewolf, entertains the crowd pre and post live auction. The Taste is set for Wednesday, March 29, starting at 7 p.m. at the L’Auberge Casino & Hotel, a presenting sponsor of the event. Attire is casual cocktail or 80s costume.

Additional presenting sponsors of the festive evening include Brian Harris Audi and Louisiana Lottery Corporation. The 2017 Taste chair is Rebecca Rathbone Harrod, who promises a fun-filled evening for a good cause.

“I am honored to serve as chair for such a remarkable fundraising event in our community,” said Harrod. “Having been involved with the Cancer Center and The Taste for many years, I have loved seeing this event grow and look forward to showcasing some exciting new elements this year. The most important part about this event is that local cancer patients will be helped with every dollar raised.”

The Taste celebrates award-winning cuisine from Baton Rouge’s top restaurants and caterers. Guests are invited to sample the unique culinary offerings from more than twenty local eateries. The event is known for not only showcasing the city’s most popular restaurants, but also introducing guests to the newest places to hit the city’s food scene.

“It’s always exciting to see what unique creation each chef will prepare for The Taste,” said Kaitlyn Guerin, development director for the Cancer Center. “It’s a truly friendly competition, and they all bring their A-game to stand out and impress event-goers. It’s such a fun and energetic atmosphere.”

Mobile bidding technology will once again be used for the silent auction at this year’s event. This technology will allow guests to enjoy the live musical entertainment, sample the food and drinks, and bid at the same time. Volunteers will be on-site to assist those unfamiliar with this technology. Other unique activities are also planned, such as the 365 Days of Giving Wall and a Kendra Scott jewelry pull.

Tickets for The Taste, which include tastings and cocktails, are $125 each and $200 per couple. A limited number of tickets are still available. To purchase tickets, inquire about mobile bidding from home and more, please visit: marybird.org/taste or call (225) 215-1224.
