Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Board of Directors Elects New Members

New volunteer leadership has been elected to help carry out its mission

 

(Baton Rouge, La.) Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is pleased to announce new volunteer leadership has been elected to help carry out its mission.

Brett P. Furr was elected to serve as board chair, the ninth in the Center’s 44 years. Furr, a partner with Taylor Porter Attorneys at Law, succeeds Tom J. Meek, Jr., M.D. who will remain on the board for an additional two years as immediate past chair.

“Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has made significant advances toward fulfilling its mission to improve survivorship and lessen the burden of cancer,” said Furr. “In collaboration with our hospital partners, the Center is establishing a new standard of care for Louisiana. I know I speak on behalf of the rest of the board when I say that we are proud to play a role in ensuring cancer patients across Southeast Louisiana have access to the highest quality care and the most robust cancer services available anywhere in the Gulf South.”

Other officers elected include Vice Chair Bill O’Quin, Financial Services Online and Secretary/Treasurer Thomas J. Adamek, Stonehenge Capital Company, LLC. Charles G. Wood, M.D., serves as medical director and Todd D. Stevens, president/CEO.

Board members newly elected for a three-year term include Cynthia B. Peterson, Ph.D., Dean, LSU College of Science; H.N. “Hank” Saurage, managing partner, Saurage Rotenberg Commercial Real Estate; and Alan A. Zaunbrecher, attorney, Zaunbrecher Treadaway. William T. “Bill” Firesheets, Buquet & LeBlanc; Alice D. Greer, community volunteer; Rose J. Hudson, Louisiana Lottery Corporation; John F. Smith, consultant; and David A. Winkler, Faulk & Winkler, LLC, were re-elected for an additional three-year term. Additional board members include Laurie L. Aronson, Lipsey’s Inc.; John C. Boyce, Jones Walker-retired; Art E. Favre, Performance Contractors, Inc.; Gerald T. Goss, Goss Wealth Management, LLC; Janice M. Guitreau, community volunteer; Cordell H. Haymon, SGS Petroleum Service Corporation; Eric R. Lane, Gerry Lane Enterprises; Erich Sternberg, Starmount Life Insurance Company; and Paul R. Thompson, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
