Silverado Drive Away Raises Awareness and Funds for Local Cancer Center
Silverado Drive Away Raises Awareness and Funds for Local Cancer Center
(Baton Rouge, La.)
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and the Super Chevy Dealers of Baton Rouge are partnering for Geaux Pink, a program designed to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer in the local community. With October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the two entities are planning a Silverado Drive Away Friday, October 25 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. that will travel through downtown Baton Rouge and across the LSU Campus to alert the public to “Geaux Pink”. Twenty-two white 2014 Chevrolet Silverados caravanning throughout the city will be decorated with pink breast cancer awareness ribbon decals to show support and raise awareness for the cause. “We are excited to partner with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and many other community companies and organizations to support Geaux Pink’s breast cancer awareness efforts,” said Mark Carline, Super Chevy Dealer president. “Everyone is somehow affected by this disease and if we can make a small difference, we consider it a big win.” “Geaux Pink is a fun and meaningful way to raise awareness about a disease that affects so many while raising money to help fight it,” said Hallie Thompson, associate development director, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “We are honored to have the support of the Super Chevy Dealers of Baton Rouge. Their generous donation will go toward local early detection and screening programs.” Louisiana’s breast cancer death rates are among the highest in the nation. This is due to a lack of access to care, delayed diagnosis and treatment, limited educational awareness and low utilization of preventative services. Last year, in a continuing effort to combat these statistics, more than 4,500 people were reached through Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s 136 free cancer screenings, which included breast cancer screenings. The Center also partners with Woman’s Hospital to provide free breast cancer screenings throughout the Baton Rouge area.
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is the most comprehensive cancer center in Louisiana offering patients the convenience of receiving high-quality, advanced care close to home. The Cancer Center is part of the National Cancer Institute Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP), a group of competitively selected cancer centers developing a national model for community cancer care.
The Super Chevy Dealers of Baton Rouge, Inc. is comprised of eleven dealerships in the surrounding Baton Rouge area and includes the following dealerships: AJ Dohmann Chevrolet, All Star Chevrolet, All Star Chevrolet North, Barbera Chevrolet, Brian Harris Chevrolet, Brockhoeft Chevrolet, Cecil Graves Chevrolet, Gerry Lane Chevrolet, Ross Downing Chevrolet, Supreme Chevrolet – Gonzales and Supreme Chevrolet – Plaquemine.
