Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Hosts ‘Together We Triumph’ Learning Series in Covington

COVINGTON, La. – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center hosted its’ initial “Together We Triumph” Cancer Series event on Oct. 4 at the Greater Covington Center. This free educational event featured a panel of Northshore-area oncology experts from the Cancer Center and other regional providers. “Together We Triumph” served as an opportunity for local cancer patients, survivors, healthcare providers and community supporters to learn more about the latest advancements in cancer care and the many ways in which Mary Bird Perkins is serving communities across the Northshore.

Panelists included:

  • Scott Bermudez, M.D., radiation oncologist, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center
  • Vera Hendrix, M.D., a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, Lakeshore Surgical
  • Patricia Braly, M.D., gynecological oncologist, Women’s Cancer Care
  • Jack Saux, M.D., medical oncologist, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center
  • Agustin Suarez, M.D., palliative medicine, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center

“Our ‘Together We Triumph’ event showcased the exceptional level of cancer expertise and personalized care that exists in the Northshore community,” said Jonas Fontenot, Ph.D., MBA, president and chief executive officer, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “We have a long history of providing care for residents here on the Northshore. Since 1998, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has provided cancer services on the Northshore. The Cancer Center’s modern, comprehensive cancer facility provides the full spectrum of cancer care, from prevention and early detection to diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. Services include medical oncology (chemotherapy/immunotherapy), radiation therapy, imaging, clinical research trials, patient navigation, free community screenings, education and more. These services are readily available to Northshore residents where it matters most – close to family and just minutes from home.
