2013 FakiƩr Open Raises More than $45K
Proceeds will benefit the local fight against cancer

ā Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC hosted its 3
rd
Ā annual golf tournament, the FakiĆ©r Open presented by Rouses Supermarkets, April 2 – 6 at Ellendale Country Club. More than $45,000 in proceeds from the weekās events will benefit the local fight against cancer. āWe are so thankful for all of our sponsors, volunteers and attendees who made the tournament possible,ā said Amy Ponson, director of development for Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC. āTheir efforts will truly make an impact on our local cancer screening and treatment efforts.ā The Pro-Am tournament on April 2 attracted more than 175 amateur golfers and featured some of south Louisianaās finest seafood. The Adams Golf Pro Tour Series professional tournament followed April 3 – 6 and included 85 professional golfers who played for a $100,000 purse. Lance Lopez of Richmond, Texas won the tournament. On April 5, the Taste of the Tournament Par-Tee and Auction was held at Ellendale Country Club. The evening included lots of food, music and a silent auction that raised more than $18,000. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC provides the full spectrum of cancer care, from prevention and early detection to diagnosis, treatment, recovery and survivorship for those in the Bayou Region. Its services include chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery, as well as patient navigation, clinical trials and free community screenings. The Center is nationally accredited with commendation and recognized for excellence in cancer care by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
