Annual Ladies Night Out benefitting Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center. Even larger than the turnout, was the record-setting $114,000 raised, funds that stay local to provide services for those who otherwise could not afford them, such as free community education and cancer screenings, nutritional supplements and transportation assistance. The main attraction at this year’s event was a Cancer Survivor Fashion Show. Local boutiques and salons were paired with 20 cancer survivors, some of whom have completed treatment at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC, while others are just beginning. “It was thrilling to be in the audience cheering for our brave cancer survivors as they walked the runway,” said Melanie Guilbeaux, Cancer Center director. “They are our heroes and we wanted to empower them by making them feel beautiful inside and out.” Phyllis Peoples, president and CEO of Terrebonne General Medical Center said, “We greatly appreciate the community’s ongoing support as we stand together to take the fight against cancer forward,” she said. “The assistance helps our cancer program continue to invest in programs, products, technology and people to enhance the comprehensive care we provide for all patients.”
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC provides the full spectrum of cancer care, from prevention and early detection to diagnosis, treatment, recovery and survivorship for those in the Bayou Region. Its services include chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery, as well as patient navigation, clinical trials and free community screenings. The Cancer Center is nationally accredited with commendation and recognized for excellence in cancer care by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as well as the national Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification Program, an affiliate of the prestigious American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
