Haydel Family Raises $12,000 for Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC
Check Presented at Ladies Night Out
(Houma) –
For the second year in a row, Sarah Haydel, M.D., and her daughter Brooke Haydel, 11, presented a check to Phyllis Peoples, President and CEO of Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC), as part of a special presentation during the Ladies Night Out, cancer fundraising gala which was held on March 9
th
at the Houma – Terrebonne Civic Center. Brooke Haydel started her fundraising efforts in 2010 when she attended the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at the end of October with her sisters and friend/former nanny, Tammy Trosclair. After the race, she was motivated to raise money in memory of her great grandmother, Frances McCoy Alexander, who was a breast cancer survivor. This year’s proceeds of $12,000 were raised by having a drawing at her practice, Haydel Dermatology. To date the Haydel family has donated over $23,600 to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC. The grand prize drawing winner received a $3,500 total skin care package which included laser treatments, 50 units of Botox, Juvederm, three skin peels, a pampering facial, one hour massage and other papering treatments. The winner of the 2nd place prize received a $1,500 Exilis/Smooth Shapes Cellulite treatment. Funds donated to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC are used to provide multiple FREE cancer screenings as well as providing necessary care and comfort items/services for cancer patients in our community that are undergoing cancer treatment. Some of these items include durable medical equipment (chair cushions and seat belt pads), nutritional supplements, wigs, and assistance with transportation costs and household bills. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC offers a vast array of community education, and support opportunities offered throughout the year. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC demonstrates a strong commitment to community outreach, and conducted screenings for over 760 people in 2011 for breast, prostate, colorectal and skin cancer- all at no cost to the patient. In addition, over 630 people were reached at educational events where cancer information was shared. These wellness and prevention efforts literally help to save hundreds of lives annually. “We are humbled by the generosity and continued support of Brooke Haydel and the Haydel family. Their donation of $12,000 will go towards providing free cancer screenings by Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC. We want to extend a sincere thank you to the Haydel’s, we greatly appreciate the support they have given to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC,” said Phyllis Peoples, TGMC President and CEO.
