Melanie Rasmusson Named Director of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC

Melanie Rasmusson is responsible for the further development and coordination of the comprehensive, award-winning cancer center program.

 

(Houma, La.) Melanie Rasmusson, BSRT(T), MBA has been named director of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC. She is responsible for the further development and coordination of the comprehensive, award-winning cancer center program.

Rasmusson received a Bachelor of Science Degree in radiation therapy from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center and a Master of Business Administration from Iowa State University. Her experience includes working as the Manager of Radiation Oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and in Radiological Emergency Preparedness for the Governor’s Office in Baton Rouge.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC is nationally accredited with commendation for excellence in cancer care by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) – the gold standard for community-based cancer care. The Cancer Center offers immediate access to a wealth of technology and clinical expertise for the Houma community and the greater Bayou region. In addition to high quality cancer care, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC offers free cancer screenings throughout our community due to the Early Bird mobile medical unit and an early detection staff that conducts screenings for breast, skin, oral, prostate and colorectal cancer for at-risk populations.
