Residents can be screened for various cancers, including breast, colorectal, prostate and skin. Biometric screenings, health vendors and early detection education will also be available.
While appointments are encouraged, walk-in screenings will be available. To make a screening appointment, call (601) 202-5056 or visit marybird.org/livewellms.
“This will be our third annual Live Well event in Natchez,” said Shayla Shannon, regional manager, cancer support and outreach, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “Each year, participation exceeds our expectations. We’re excited to see everyone come out to take charge of their health and have some fun while doing it.”
At last year’s Live Well Mississippi event:
- 99 participants received a total of 170 free cancer screenings
- 11 were navigated due to abnormal findings
- 1 cancer was diagnosed
- Of those who got screened, 60 percent were uninsured
“Our mission is to improve survivorship and lessen the burden of cancer,” said Shannon. “One of the ways we achieve this is through events like Live Well Mississippi and other free cancer screenings held throughout the year. Due to the amazing support of our donors, everyone can get screened for free – with or without insurance.”
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten will serve as honorary event chairperson for Live Well Mississippi, continuing his role in helping spread the message that early detection saves lives.
