(Mandeville, La.) – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is announcing a special Valentine’s Day cancer screening event, Monday, Feb. 14 in Mandeville. Mary Bird Perkins mobile units will be onsite to provide event attendees access to free breast and colorectal cancer screenings. This event will be hosted in partnership with Evolve Studio in Mandeville and with the support of Chip Lavigne and his team at Lavigne Oil.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 2963 U.S. Highway 190 #3298 in Mandeville. In addition to offering delicious superfood smoothie samples, Evolve Studio will provide every screening participant with a pass that can be redeemed for a free Pilates class.
Appointments are required for screenings. For more information about this event or to make an appointment, call (985) 287-5775.
To raise awareness about breast cancer, Lavigne Oil has wrapped select fuel pumps in pink at their stations and will keep them wrapped through October 2022. A portion of the proceeds from these pumps will benefit Mary Bird Perkins’ Geaux Pink initiative. The fundraiser supports breast cancer patients, as well as helps provide free breast cancer screenings, education programs and early detection for communities throughout the region.
“We want to literally fuel the future of cancer care in our community. Wrapping our fuel pumps in pink at select Lavigne Oil gas locations serves as a reminder of the impact that breast cancer has on individuals and families in our community,” said Chip Lavigne, president of Lavigne Oil. “Lavigne Oil is proud to bring attention to Mary Bird Perkins’ efforts in the fight against breast cancer over the next year and help save as many lives as possible.”

This involvement and investment empowers Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center to further its mission to improve survivorship and lessen the burden of cancer.”
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in American women, with one in eight developing the disease in their lifetime. The American Cancer Society recommends that women get a clinical breast exam at least every three years starting in their twenties and annual exams and mammograms starting at age forty. Breast self-examination is an option beginning at age twenty.
Kelt said that this screening event is yet another example of how community partners working together to bring awareness and cancer screenings to residents across the region.
