GONZALES, La. – Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has announced that its Gonzales location will undergo a $2.5 million facility renovation and expansion and offer additional cancer support services. Over 6,000 square feet will be added to the existing building at 1104 Louisiana 30 W, including a 2,500 square foot infusion suite with 14 semi-private infusion bays and one private room, chemotherapy mixing area, retail pharmacy and lab. This expansion comes as Ascension Parish continues to experience rapid population growth, resulting in an increased demand for services.
The Gonzales Cancer Center’s current location allows for about 100 patients to be served each month. With this additional space, and with the introduction of new support services, its capacity will nearly triple to accommodate between 250 and 300 patients each month. Local residents will benefit from the convenience of accessing treatment services in their own community, eliminating the need to drive to Baton Rouge, New Orleans or even Houston.
“At Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales, we know the toll that cancer can have on the physical, mental and emotional well-being of our patients,” said Ryan Houston, cancer programs administrator community sites, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “For this reason, we want to make accessing our services as seamless, convenient, and comfortable as possible for patients and their caregivers. With a growing need in our community, we are proud to launch this expansion and showcase our continued dedication to investing in the future of Ascension Parish.”
Mary Bird Perkins has served Ascension Parish for 15 years, thanks in large part to community support. Generous donors have made it possible to provide the latest treatment technology and free prevention, early detection and screening programs, as well as survivorship and other key services in Gonzales.
For nearly 10 years, the Gonzales Area Foundation has demonstrated its loyal commitment to transforming cancer care in Ascension Parish. Their passion for ensuring every person in the community has access to high-quality care has inspired them to pledge $500,000 toward the expansion project. The Gonzales Area Foundation and other local supporters, including local industry leaders and the wider Ascension Parish community, hope their support motivates the broader community to join them in investing in this initiative.
“Mary Bird Perkins in Gonzales is a beacon of healing and hope, and we are proud to stand alongside the Cancer Center to ensure the best care possible for our family, friends and neighbors” said DeEtte DeArmond, Gonzales Area Foundation. “Every contribution gets us closer to our goal, and every dollar stays here, in this community, serving cancer patients in need.”
