Dr. Leon Cannizzaro is a cardiologist at Louisiana Cardiology Associates in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is the Medical Director of Echocardiography for Louisiana Cardiology Associates and also the program lead for Mary Bird Perkins – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center’s cardio-oncology program, which combines the facility’s individualized, innovative approach to cancer care along with the sophistication and expertise of the Our Lady of the Lake Heart and Vascular Institute to ensure comprehensive medicine at every level. He graduated summa cum laude from Louisiana State University, where he was a University Medal recipient (4.0 GPA), and received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans.
He completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center, where he also served as an assistant chief resident at the Durham VA Medical Center. He completed his fellowship at Baylor St. Luke’s Texas Heart Institute, where he was a chief cardiology fellow and received the Cardiology Critical Care Unit Fellow of the Year award.
He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and also a member of the American Society of Echocardiography and the Texas Heart Institute Cardiac Society.
While attending LSU, he was a member of the LSU Men’s Swim Team, where he was honored to receive the Academic All American Award and Pontiff Academic Achievement Award.
